Description: Meets MnTC Goal Areas 6 and 7. This course explores the great variety and depth of North American art. Native American, colonial, Latino and contemporary art are the focus of the course.

  1. Describe the characteristics of at least three major styles of art in America.
  2. Recognize common art characteristics from major art styles.
  3. Identify a wide variety of art/architecture from major art styles.
  4. Articulate how major historical/cultural events in America have shaped art.
  5. Recognize the influence that culture and politics play on American art.
  6. Explore art and culture of minorities in America.
  7. Use the vocabulary acquired in the course.
  8. Recognize that art is an expression of human values.
  9. Compare cultural values and how they are expressed in art.
