Brian Xiong joined Minnesota State Community and Technical College in June 2016 as the Chief Diversity Officer for the college's four campuses. He has been with the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities for over 16 years from being a staff in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to faculty in the Multicultural and Ethnic Studies Program. He is an inspirational multicultural affairs professional who speaks energetically on the importance of multicultural education and diversity in higher education. Growing up in North Minneapolis, Brian was inspired by his mentor, retired Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page, the Page Education Foundation and the Wallin Education Partners to get his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Justice Administration from Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall, a Master of Science in Multicultural and Ethnic Studies from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and currently a doctoral candidate in the Counselor Education and Supervision, CACREP doctoral program, in the Counseling and Student Personnel Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato. He is a recipient of the "Most Friendly Staff of the Year" and the President's Commission on Diversity from MSUM. He is an active editorial board member for the Hmong Studies Journal, executive board for the Hmong Archives, former board member for the East Side Freedom Library and the Facilitating Racial Equity Collaborative, and has served in several program reviews for national and international conferences on race and ethnicity studies.
Zakaria Amin joined the Office of Diversity and Inclusion in August 2016 as a Student Staff. Prior to joining ODI, he was an interpreter/translator for several private sectors, nonprofit organizations, and social services. He completed a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from Salahaddin University in Iraqi Kurdistan and is currently pursuing a certificate in Accounting Clerk and Payroll Specialist at Minnesota State Community and Technical College. Zakaria has many years of experience in the field of diversity and inclusion - he was a former staff for the Cultural Diversity Resources in Fargo/Moorhead community, a news reporter for the Kurdish Globe and has written many articles for local and international media outlets, and a volunteer at the Bridge WLC where he helps Kurdish Americans with interpretation services.
