Graduation speakers share their M State stories

Graduating M State students share their stories during each of the campus commencement ceremonies. This year's student speakers are:

Detroit Lakes campus
Architectural Drafting and Design major Andrew Hanson plans to work in his career field for the coming year. He was accepted at North Dakota State University for the fall, but he's delaying his education in electrical engineering so he can gain more work experience. He says M State was "the perfect school to go to," giving him a chance to both learn and to put what he's learned into practice.

Fergus Falls campus
As an exchange student, Nikola Schulz spent her sophomore year in Bertha Hewitt before returning to complete high school in Munich, Germany. M State's affordability and campus housing brought her to Fergus Falls, and she quickly became involved in numerous academic organizations and in student government, where she served as president. After earning her Associate of Arts degree, she plans to transfer to Minnesota State University Moorhead to major in psychology.

Titus Torkelson's passion for music was apparent through his involvement in M State's concert choir, voice ensemble, jazz band and multiple student-led combos, and he leaves a lasting impact on the music scene at the college. He enrolled at M State as a PSEO student and graduates with Associate of Fine Arts and Associate of Arts degrees. Torkelson intends to continue at Minnesota State University Moorhead to major in Music Industries & Technology and minor in Guitar Performance.

Wadena campus
Shane Motschenbacher, who graduates from M State with his associate degree in Business, intends to pursue his bachelor's degree online at Minnesota State University Moorhead as he continues to work in his hometown of Wadena. "M State has changed my life in many ways," he says, "and has shown me that all your dreams can come true if you choose to fully apply yourself."

Moorhead campus
Mehria Azizi says M State has transformed her life by changing her from a mother to her two children, ages 9 and 7, to an educated mother to her proud children. With her degree from the Medical Administrative Assistant program, she intends to work in a Fargo Moorhead hospital and also continue her education. Her interests and luck brought her to M State, Azizi says.
