M State’s Workforce Development Solutions division, in partnership with the American Cancer Society, will be hosting a Cancer Care Conference for healthcare professionals on Friday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nurses, social workers and dental professionals can earn four contact hours by participating.

The 2024 conference will cover proactive approaches to cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment related to oral cancers, lung cancer, and cervical and ovarian cancer. Information will also be provided on cancer treatment outcomes in the community and the importance of end-of-life planning.

“M State has co-sponsored this annual conference for several years, and it’s well-reputed for its educational quality and applicability to the on-the-job needs of healthcare professionals,” says Jenna Stammen, Director of Health Training for M State’s Workforce Development Solutions. “Our speakers this year bring a range of expertise to the table, and we expect another strong turnout. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.”

Conference speakers and topics will include:

  • Nancy Franke Wilson, Executive Director of the Minnesota Oral Health Coalition: “It Can’t Be Me: The Reluctant Cancer Patient.”
  • Tanya Baity, Certified Nurse Midwife: “Cervical and Ovarian Cancers: Trauma-Informed and Fat-Friendly Approaches to Screening.”

  • Charlotte Johnson, Senior Oncology Social Worker at Sanford Health Roger Maris Cancer Center: “Getting Your (And Your Client’s) Affairs in Order.”

The conference will be held at M State’s Moorhead campus, in the Oscar Bergos Conference Center (rooms A115-A121); enter through doors W1 or S1. Participants earn their four contact hours with a paid $80 registration fee and proof of attendance.
