Description
Meets MnTC Goal Areas 6 and 8. This course will introduce students to films from non-English speaking countries around the globe. The course will study stories and societies through cinema, readings and lecture. Students will consider their own worldview while they screen films and analyze multiple themes and ideas as a means of enriching their global perspective.
Competencies
  1. Understand films as an expression of human values in context.
  2. Respond critically to films and the ideas they present.
  3. Articulate an informed personal reaction to films.
  4. Identify basic film elements: shots, angle, editing, sound, and their dramatic influence on the effectiveness of a film.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of cultural, social, religious, and linguistic differences as portrayed in films.
  6. Analyze specific global issues portrayed in films, illustrating the cultural, economic, and political differences that affect their solution.
  7. Understand the role of a world citizen and the responsibility world citizens share for their common global future.
