Description
This course is a clinical experience related to the performance of immunohematology testing under the supervision of laboratory personnel at an affiliate hospital. This course provides further investigation and study of the methods and techniques related to blood group serology and compatibility testing and selection of the proper blood components for transfusion medicine.

Competencies
  1. Demonstrate proper laboratory safety techniques and procedures.
  2. Evaluate quality assurance and quality control as they pertain to immunohematology analysis testing.
  3. Perform maintenance and calibration on immunohematology analyzers and equipment.
  4. Perform immunohematology laboratory procedures.
  5. Troubleshoot testing errors and unexpected test results.
  6. Evaluate patient specimens as acceptable or unacceptable for analysis.
  7. Correlate immunohematology patient test results and theories with states of health and disease.
  8. Comply with course and college policies and procedures.
