This course is designed to educate beauty industry professionals about essential safety protocols, regulations and best practices to ensure a safe and healthy salon environment. This course emphasizes the importance of compliance with the Minnesota Board of Cosmetology.

Competencies

  1. Demonstrate the proper steps to handle an exposure incident.
  2. Summarize salon prohibitions and infection control requirements in accordance with Minnesota Statutes Chapter 155A, Minnesota Rules Chapter 2105 and Minnesota Rules Chapter 2110.
  3. Compare different Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registered disinfectants, their mix ratios and immersion time.
  4. Identify the different types of fire extinguishers and how to effectively use them.
  5. Summarize Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Center for Disease Control (CDC) regulations in regard to their importance to the salon.
  6. Define Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and why they are required in the salon.
  7. Identify Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and when it is used.
  8. Define the four types of tools that are used to perform services in the cosmetology industry and proper disinfecting measures.
