Description
This is the third in a series of courses designed to develop the skills and knowledge needed to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL). The course will focus on speed, fluency, vocabulary expansion and conversational skills, along with reinforcement of appropriate grammar usage. It also will examine attitudes, values and cultural norms of the Deaf Community.
Prerequisites
  • ASL1102
  • Grade of B or better in ASL1102
Competencies
  1. Generate American Sign Language structure with intermediate ASL vocabulary knowledge.
  2. Display appropriate use of intermediate ASL features.
  3. Execute a wide variety of grammatical principles, including classifiers and inflections.
  4. Display understanding of the grammatical differences between ASL and English.
  5. Demonstrate ability to maintain intermediate-level conversations.
  6. Exhibit intermediate-level fingerspelling competency.
  7. Develop intermediate linguistic structures in ASL including inflection and use of space.
  8. Display appropriate usage of Deaf idioms.
  9. Exhibit intermediate-level number production and recognition.
  10. Demonstrate appropriate behaviors and interactions with members of the Deaf Community.
