I chose M State because it was close to home, and I never really thought of going anywhere else. They have the Accounting program I was interested in, and I had always heard amazing things about the college. I am very glad that I chose the Detroit Lakes campus because the accounting instructor, Michele Waldera, makes her students’ success her priority. I have never once doubted that I would graduate or felt the urge to give up on the program, and I owe a lot of that to Michele.
I would also like to add that none of this would have been possible without the help and motivation of my family. Going to college isn’t easy for a lot of people, myself being one of them, but my parents have always reminded me that I can do anything I set my mind to. My young daughter has been my biggest motivator to do the best I can. It has not been easy to go through college, work and raise a family, but I have a whole village behind me offering a helping hand whenever they can.
Rachael Buhr was named a national 2020 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship winner for her involvement in the PTK academic honor society on the Detroit Lakes campus.
