This course provides an introduction to dental hygiene with emphasis on the practice of preventive dentistry, care and use of equipment, sterilization techniques and an introduction to instrumentation.
  1. Apply infection control techniques in a clinical setting.
  2. Demonstrate sterilization and disinfection techniques.
  3. Demonstrate patient and operator positioning.
  4. Demonstrate instrument grasps.
  5. Demonstrate uses of the dental mirror.
  6. Demonstrate caries detection.
  7. Demonstrate preparation and recording of personal, medical and dental histories.
  8. Demonstrate taking and recording vital signs.
  9. Demonstrate intraoral and extraoral exam.
  10. Demonstrate periodontal probe use.
  11. Demonstrate soft tissue exam/gingival description.
  12. Demonstrate Gracey curette and scaler instrument activation.
  13. Demonstrate calculus detection.
  14. Clean and polish removable dental appliances.
