Description

Meets MnTC Goal Areas 2 and 6F. This course introduces students to digital photographic equipment, materials, programs, processes and philosophies while examining photography and its role in historic and contemporary cultures, with a focus on artistic content. Digital photographic and presentation processes are explored, and artistic rationale and execution are examined. Students will acquire, identify and demonstrate the use of terminology, technical abilities, basic visual elements and principles of design common to digital photographic artwork.

Competencies

Create and execute digital photographs using problem-solving processes that are technically competent.
Demonstrate the basic processes and techniques of working with digital photography.
Demonstrate the ability to use computer software to upload, download, apply image correction, edit and create print-ready digital images.
Demonstrate the following technical skills: ISO control, shutter speed/motion, F-stops/depth of field, use of various lenses and photographic exposure.
Articulate knowledge of the history of photography.
Demonstrate an increased appreciation of the vital role and value of the fine arts and humanities in the development of culture.
Explain and evaluate the effectiveness of personal artwork and the work of others through critique.
Demonstrate an understanding of health and safety issues within the discipline.
