This course introduces basic surgical pharmacology. Topics include drug classification, therapeutic effects, side effects, interactions and dosage calculations.

  6. Define general terminology associated with drug use.
  7. Identify principles of drug use and anesthesia administration.
  8. Perform medication preparation while maintaining surgical asepsis.
  9. Accurately perform sponge, needle and instrument counts.
  10. Demonstrate safe handling of infectious/hazardous waste.
  11. Identify anesthesia techniques, medication administration and preparation.
