Description
Meets MnTC Goal Areas 2 and 6. Individual woodwind, brass, percussion and guitar lessons of one hour per week are open to advanced students with instructor's consent. Course is required of instrumental performance or education majors and includes required performances. Students should contact the music department to arrange instruction. There is an additional fee. May be repeated for credit.
Competencies
  1. Progress in the skills of reading and realizing instrumental scores by studying a variety of music styles and vocal techniques.
  2. Analyze those works as expressions of composers who created within particular style periods, for particular instruments and for particular audiences.
  3. Interpret music using stylistic conventions and techniques of the period in both melody and structure.
  4. Express their own musical ideas within the framework of the printed score.
  5. Articulate their observations and ideas about the music studied using appropriate musical language.
  6. Perform appropriate literature during student recital hour performance or individual recital performances.
