Description
Meets MnTC Goal Area 6F. The Jazz Ensemble meets on a weekly basis, studies and prepares music in the various styles of jazz and performs one concert each semester. Special emphasis will be given to jazz improvisation as an integral part of this music. Enrollment is open to any instrumentalist at the discretion of the instructor. May be repeated for credit.
Competencies
  1. The student will study, rehearse, and perform music in a variety of jazz styles.
  2. The student will hear and discuss information concerning the personal, historical, and social background of each work studied.
  3. The student will compare and place works in their historical and stylistic contexts.
  4. The student will perform one concert and be involved in both written music and jazz improvisation.
  5. The student will articulate a response to the music studied.
