Description
This course provides practice in applied gas utilities tasks with a focus on installation. Students have theory and applied training with the installation of gas meters, valves, regulators and plastic pipe.
Prerequisites
Competencies
  1. Explain gas distribution systems.
  2. Demonstrate how to install plastic gas mains.
  3. Demonstrate the proper installation for polyethylene (PE) gas service.
  4. Demonstrate the installation of meters and regulators.
  5. Demonstrate the installation of gas valves.
  6. Complete and explain gas valve maintenance.
  7. Complete a gas leak investigation.
  8. Maintain a gas system by making emergency repairs.
  9. Demonstrate how to use a gas mapping system.
  10. Explain the importance of recordkeeping within the gas industry.
  11. Identify leak surveys for systems uprates.
  12. Explain why and how you would uprate a gas system.
  13. Explain and demonstrate the abandoning of mains and services.
  14. Prepare site for traffic and worker protection.
  15. Perform pipe burial.
  16. Join plastic pipes with heat fusion using saddle fusion process.
  17. Describe and demonstrate plastic pipe fusion.
