Description
This course covers the study of juvenile delinquency, the theories of causation and the methods of corrections. It also examines the juvenile court and correctional systems. Minnesota juvenile law will be explored as it relates to the Minnesota Police Officer Standards and Training objectives.

  4. Examine the concept of restorative justice in dealing with juvenile offenders.

  6. Differentiate between juvenile shelter care placements and detention holds.
  7. Explain the difference between the rules governing juvenile and adult data practices.
  8. Relate the levels of juvenile offenses and the appropriate use of detention.
  9. Identify the dispositions available to youthful offenders including extended juvenile jurisdiction and certification.
  10. Examine the actions that are required when processing juvenile offenders.
  11. Analyze how traffic citations are processed for juvenile offenders.
  12. Interpret that a juvenile's conditional waiver of rights regarding statements must be viewed within the totality of circumstances at the time the waiver is given.
