Description
Meets MnTC Goal Area 6. This course will build on the skills developed in Introduction to Ceramics, ART1142, with emphasis on wheel throwing, glazing and firing techniques.
Prerequisites
Competencies
  1. View and research the work of other artists through exhibits, videos, books or slides as seen in class.
  2. Experience the work of other artists in a gallery, exhibit or studio setting outside of class meetings.
  3. Expand application of hand building techniques.
  4. Create works that integrate more advanced technical and design skills. These may include thrown and altered pottery, sectional pots, tea pots or a series of functional works (sets).
  5. Create works that demonstrate skills in more advanced design and surface decoration.
  6. Explore sculptural design techniques.
  7. Mix a test glaze and fire test tiles to view results.
  8. Participate in class critiques, in writing and orally.
  9. Use accurate vocabulary in the use of ceramic media and techniques.
  10. Use studio materials and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
