Description
Meets MnTC Goal Areas 6 and 10. Students will explore works of land or earth art and architecture from historical, contemporary, and environmental contexts. Topics vary but will include the origins and development of land and earth art and architecture in the Americas and their interrelationships with and effects on ecosystems, landscapes, and cultures.
Competencies
  1. Identify the characteristics of various works of land or earth art and architecture.
  2. Identify a wide variety of land or earth art and architecture from around the world.
  3. Analyze and identify the interrelationships between land or earth art, ecosystems, and cultures.
  4. Examine and assess the effects of land or earth art on natural ecosystems or resources.
  5. Analyze and identify the environmental and social circumstances that shape the history of land or earth art.
  6. Examine the work of artists as expressions of human values within an historical, environmental and cultural context.
  7. Explore the lives of individual artists and assess the effects of their work on the environment.
  8. Express informed personal responses to works of art in written papers and/or class discussions.
  9. Propose and defend alternative solutions to the effects of land or earth art on natural ecosystems or resources.
