Description
This course will teach the students to appropriately assign evaluation and management codes based on the physician documentation using 1995, 1997 and 2021 E/M Coding guidelines. Students will abstract information from healthcare documentation and assign appropriate levels of service.

Competencies
  1. Identify the importance of documentation and the ability to use Medicare E/M guidelines.
  2. Identify, contrast, and explain these sections of healthcare records; history of present illness, review of systems, and general vs. specific physical examination.
  3. Utilize the three elements of medical decision making to determine the overall medical decision-making complexity.
  4. Explain key components to properly assign evaluation and management codes.
  5. Explain documentation requirements for proper assignment of evaluation and management codes.
