Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to allow students of Minnesota State Community and Technical College to return textbooks, course-related items (e.g., uniforms), and non-course-related items (e.g., supplies) purchased at the College's campus stores within a reasonable timeframe. 

Definitions

Course-related items

Examples include textbooks, uniforms and tools. 

Non-course-related items

Examples include supplies, electronics, and clothing. 

Policy

Refund Criteria

  • Textbooks, course-related items and non-course-related items will be refunded in full if they are in new, resalable condition. 
  • Tools will be refunded only after third-party restocking and/or return fees have been assessed. 
  • New textbooks returned that are not in new condition may be refunded at the used book price, or 75% off the new price if a used price is not listed in the point-of-sale terminal/cash register under any campus.
  • Defective items must be exchanged within the same semester of purchase.
  • Non-returnable items include bundles, e-books, software, special orders, seasonal and clearance merchandise. 

Refund Deadlines

Textbooks and course-related items, purchased fall and spring semesters may be returned with the original receipt within the first five (5) business days of the semester. Tools and tool kits may be returned in their original packaging, unopened, within five (5) days of the start of the semester; however, the student will be liable for all restocking and/or return fees with the third-party vendor.

Items purchased for summer session and late start classes may be returned with the original receipt within three (3) business days of the start of the class.

Textbooks and course-related items purchased after the first five days of the term may only be returned if within 24 hours and with the original receipt.

Non-course-related items are returnable within ten (10) business days of purchase with the original receipt and in new condition. 

Refunds

  • Refunds on credit card purchases will be issued to the credit card used at time of purchase.
  • Refunds on cash or check purchases will be issued as a check within seven (7) business days, or the student may choose to receive a store gift card.
  • Refunds on purchases charged on account will be refunded to the student’s account.

Campus store staff reserves the right to assess the condition of all returned items and may make exceptions at their sole discretion.

  • Ensure the Campus Store Return Policy is followed. 

Campus Store Employees

  • Ensure the Campus Store Return Policy is implemented and followed.
  • Inspect all returns and determine the condition before processing the return. 

Students

  • Follow the refund deadlines and refund details in the Campus Store Return Policy.
