M State health sciences enrollment soars 32% this fall, fueling overall college growth

Enrollment at Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M State) continues its upward trajectory this fall, with especially strong gains in high-demand healthcare fields. New student enrollment in M State’s health sciences programs has surged by 32%, while nursing programs have seen a 14% increase.
“Our healthcare programs are thriving because we’re committed to providing students with hands-on, real-world learning experiences,” says Dr. Ken Kompelien, Dean for the School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing. “The new Health Care Simulation Center on our Moorhead campus has been a game-changer. By integrating innovative technologies and a multidiscipline, lifelike approach to learning, we’re preparing future healthcare professionals to excel in dynamic clinical environments. Our students graduate ready to meet the needs of patients, communities and the region’s workforce.”
Overall, M State’s student enrollment is up 4.6% compared to this time last year.
The recent gains follow last year’s double-digit increases and mark a sustained upward trend that began in 2022, as the college emerged from the pandemic era.
“M State’s continued enrollment growth reflects our focus on programs that meet workforce demand and support student success,” says M State President Carrie Brimhall. “We’re proud to offer high-quality, relevant and affordable education that empowers students to build meaningful careers and strengthens our communities. Our commitment to innovation and responsiveness ensures that M State remains a leader in preparing graduates for today’s and tomorrow’s opportunities.”
