This financial aid checklist is provided as a tool for M State students. Additional information can be found on our website. We also have provided direct links to information available on our Help site.
1. Apply for your FSA (Federal Student Aid) ID and password. (Help site)
- Parents also must apply for an FSA ID and password if a student is a dependent student. A dependent student is defined as a student under the age of 24. An independent student is defined as a student who is age 24 or older; has a child; is married; is a ward of the court; is serving in the U.S. military; or whose parents are both deceased.
2. Complete the FAFSA.
- M State's school code is 005541; when you type in this number, a Fergus Falls address will be displayed.
- Parent information is needed for dependent students.
3. Respond to all requests for information from the college at SpartanNet>E-Services>Financial Aid>Aid Application Status. Forms can be found at minnesota.edu/forms.
4. Review your award letter in your E-Services account: SpartanNet>E-Services>Financial Aid>Award Letter. You will receive an email when your award letter is ready. (Help site)

5. Apply for Federal Direct Student Loans at SpartanNet>E-Services>Financial Aid>Loans. (Help site)
6. Complete loan entrance counseling at studentaid.gov. (Help site)
7. Complete and sign the electronic Direct Loan Master Promissory Note at studentaid.gov. (Help site)
