Course loads

Students should plan to devote at least three hours per credit per week for study time, in general. Plan on additional time for class attendance and/or review of course materials. For example, if you are taking 12 credits/semester, you should plan on studying at least 36 hours/week in addition to time spent in class and/or reviewing course materials. Twelve credits/semester is equivalent to a full-time job.

Please consider your additional responsibilities (e.g., work, family, personal time) when determining a practical credit load. We typically suggest a starting point of nine credits/semester for students who are working and/or have family responsibilities.

Students enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester are considered full-time students.  Taking 15-16 credits per semester keeps students on track for timely graduation.
