Description
This course provides a high-level, experiential overview of the basic aspects of various transportation-related career fields. Topics include professional truck driving, how to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL), career exploration, an overview of the diesel industry, an overview of the power sports industry, and an overview of the automotive industry, including combustion engine and electric vehicles.
Competencies
  1. Explore the professional truck driving industry by discussing topics including but not limited to supply chains, inspections and weight distribution.
  2. Explore the various aspects of the diesel industry by discussing the various types of diesel equipment, safety, basic servicing/maintenance and engine design.
  3. Explore various topics of the automotive industry, including the internal combustion engine, the electric vehicle motor, wheel and tire design, chassis design and basic vehicle maintenance.
  4. Discuss the requirements and how to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL).
  5. Explore various topics within the power sports industry, including an overview of the 2- and 4-stroke engine, marine drive train systems and outdoor power equipment.
  6. Participate in experiential learning experiences in various transportation career settings.
