This advanced course expands students’ production skills with a focus on professional workflows and output methods. Students work with complex file preparation, color management, substrate selection and finishing techniques across a variety of print applications. Emphasis is placed on troubleshooting production challenges and coordinating effectively with print vendors. Students are able to plan, prepare and produce high-quality, production-ready materials that meet industry standards.

- Assess and select appropriate printing technologies, substrates and finishing methods based on project goals, production scale and budget considerations.
- Develop and manage complex production files that incorporate advanced typography, color management profiles, spot colors, overprints, trapping, impositions and output settings.
- Apply professional prepress procedures to ensure accurate translation from digital layout to final printed output.
- Implement color calibration and proofing workflows to achieve consistent and reliable color across multiple devices and production environments.
- Evaluate and troubleshoot print errors, file preparation issues and production inconsistencies using professional problem-solving strategies.
- Communicate effectively with print vendors, production teams and clients by interpreting and preparing industry-standard specifications, estimates and job tickets.
- Produce finished print pieces that demonstrate proficiency in finishing techniques, such as binding, die cutting, specialty coatings and packaging construction.
- Analyze sustainability considerations in print production, including material choices, waste reduction strategies and environmentally responsible vendor selection.
- Present final printed work that reflects professional craftsmanship, attention to detail, and alignment with the project’s design intent.
