In this course, students learn the structure and composition of the hair shaft and hair follicle, how to recognize various disorders and diseases of the hair and scalp, and determine which disorders can be serviced in the salon and which should be referred to a physician. Students gain the foundational knowledge necessary to support safe, effective hair services.

  11. Determine the different density of natural hair and classify as thin, medium or thick.
  12. Demonstrate how to check the porosity and elasticity of one's hair.
