Purpose

To ensure that Limited English Proficiency services are provided to eligible students to enhance their chances for academic success.

Policy

The College recognizes Limited English Proficiency students as individuals who have sufficient difficulty speaking, reading, writing or understanding the English language. The College has developed a support services plan for enrolled students who meet conditions of Limited English Proficiency. A student may be eligible for these support services by meeting one or more of the following conditions:

  • The student is not a native of the United States or has a native language other than English and comes from an environment where a language other than English is dominant.
  • The student is a Native American or Alaska native and comes from an environment where a language other than English has had a significant impact on the student’s level of English language proficiency.
  • The student is migratory and has a native language other than English and comes from an environment where a language other than English is dominant.

Responsibility

Accessibility Resources Director

Determine eligible students. Facilitate the development of a personal education plan with identified students. Arrange for support services as needed. Review personal education plan with student once per semester.

Enrollment/Admission Personnel

Ensure that self-identified LEP students have been appropriately assessed prior to registration. Provide results to appropriate faculty and/or tutoring personnel.

Assigned Faculty

Teach and advise eligible students.

Student Development Services Director

Provide support for eligible students, tutoring staff, and assigned faculty to assist with policy compliance and student success.
