The following outlines the process for obtaining Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) through various pathways.
Exploration Steps
- Review CPL website to select appropriate CPL options.
- Meet with an advisor or success navigator to check eligibility.
- Complete the Student Prior Learning Questionnaire.
Preapproval
- CPL team reviews and determines the appropriate path for credit.
- Paths include Industry, Military, and Portfolio options.
Industry Path
- Assess if Industry-Recognized Credentials (IRCs) show progressive skills development.
- Verify alignment of program/course outcomes with industry standards.
- Evaluate if IRCs measure students’ knowledge and abilities in specific areas.
Military Path
- Request military transcripts as part of the admission process.
- Transcripts may include Joint Services Transcript (JST) and other military records.
- Ensure documentation activities are completed and submitted for review.
Portfolio Path
- Students complete documentation activities agreed upon in the WEP evaluation form.
- Faculty reviews submitted documentation and submits results to the School Dean.
- Follow American Council on Education (ACE) guidelines for credit evaluation.
Credit Decision
- Official transcripts must be received and on file at the Registrar’s office.
- Faculty and staff input is considered in the credit decision process.
