  • Camp cost is $200.  After we receive your application and payment, you will be notified via email with further instructions.
  • Enrollment in Herdina is limited.
  • Applicants must be 15 years of age before the Camp begins.
  • From 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. each day of camp, you'll get hands-on experience and classroom instruction in a variety of specialty occupations within the residential and commercial construction industry.

Enrollment Fee

If the student is 18 years or older, please read and sign the following statement: I agree to attend the Herdina Construction Trades Camp at the Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Moorhead this summer. I am familiar with the expectations and requirements of the Camp. I recognize that participation in the Camp, even when well-supervised and managed, poses a risk of physical injury to me, and I agree to assume all such risks. I understand that people registered for the Camp will be participating in construction-related activities and I consent to participation in this program. I certify that I have no medical or other conditions, and I am not aware of any other facts that I have not disclosed (including the use of any medications) that would affect my ability to safely participate in the camp. I agree to hold the Camp, the Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead, Home Builders Care of Fargo-Moorhead Foundation, Minnesota State Community and Technical College, North Dakota State College of Science, the Herdina Construction Trades Camp advisory committee and their agents, directors, officers, employees, insurers, volunteers, and any others acting on their behalf or on behalf of the program (“Released Parties”) harmless and hereby release and discharge the Released Parties from any claims, demands, injuries, illnesses, damages, causes of actions and legal liability whatsoever relating to my participation in the Camp due to the Released Parties’ ordinary negligence, including but not limited to failure to ascertain the condition of the premises or equipment, failure to maintain, inspect or repair the premises or equipment or failure to warn of known or unknown dangerous conditions on the premises or equipment. This includes liability for any and all medical, accident, or other expenses which I may incur during participation in the Camp. I certify that I have health or other insurance in place to cover any and all of the medical expenses I might incur and assume full responsibility for all expenses not covered by my insurance. I acknowledge that health, accident or other insurance is my sole responsibility. I acknowledge that all accidents are reported and that if there is an accident or illness in a classroom or laboratory, an ambulance may be called to transport me to a local emergency room. All camp classrooms or laboratories are equipped with first aid kits for treatment of minor injuries. I also grant permission to the Herdina Construction Trades Camp to use my picture in any format promoting the Camp.

If the student is not 18 or older, a parent or guardian must read and sign the following statement: I, as the parent (or guardian) to the student named above, give permission for my child to attend the Herdina Construction Trades Camp at Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Moorhead. I have discussed the expectations and requirements of the Camp with my child. I recognize that my child will be participating in construction-related activities and I consent to my child’s participation in this program. I certify that my child has no medical or other conditions, and I am not aware of any other facts that I have not disclosed (including the use of any medications) that would affect my child’s ability to safely participate in the camp. I agree for myself and on behalf of my child to hold the Herdina Construction Trades Camp, the Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead, Home Builders Care of Fargo-Moorhead Foundation, Minnesota State Community and Technical College, North Dakota State College of Science, the Herdina Construction Trades Camp advisory committee and their agents, directors, officers, employees, insurers, and any volunteers and any others acting on their behalf or behalf of the program (“Released Parties”) harmless and hereby release and discharge the Released Parties from any claims, demands, injuries, illnesses, damages, causes of actions and legal liability whatsoever relating to my participation in the Camp due to the Released Parties’ ordinary negligence, including but not limited to failure to ascertain the condition of the premises or equipment, failure to maintain, inspect, or repair the premises or equipment or failure to warn of known or unknown dangerous conditions on the premises or equipment. CODE OF CONDUCT

Tobacco Products, Alcohol, Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia:
The use and/or possession of tobacco products, alcohol, drugs or drug paraphernalia while participating in the Herdina Construction Trades Camp is illegal and forbidden. Suspected use or possession of any of the above products will be reported immediately and relayed to the parents. Confirmed use or possession of any of the above products will result in the student's dismissal from the Camp. 

Attendance is mandatory. Instructors will be taking attendance each day. Students that miss more than two days of the Camp will not receive their three college credits. If an absence is necessary due to illness, family functions, emergency situations, lack of transportation or another situation that is deemed appropriate by the instructors, it is advisable to contact your instructors or the HBA of F-M prior to the event if possible.

Students need to arrive on time and be ready for the day before class time starts.

Disciplinary Guidelines:

The following will be used as a basic guide for handling specific problems that may occur during the Camp. Each instructor may put additional rules in place but will follow these basic guidelines. Additional rules will be communicated to the student. Instructors will enforce such rules consistently and fairly with all students.

Not listening to instructors, being disruptive during the Camp, arriving late for class, not wearing appropriate clothing, badmouthing, participating in harmful teasing or bullying, and using abusive or foul language or obscene gestures will result in disciplinary action.

  1. First occurrence: Verbal warning.
  2. Second occurrence or ongoing behavior: Notification to the parents/guardians.
  3. Third occurrence or ongoing behavior: Will be asked to leave and not return. 
  4. Damage to school property, job site stealing or disrespect of another student's property: Student will be asked to immediately leave the program and could be subject to pay for damages.
  5. Violence toward an instructor or student with intent to injure: Mandatory meeting with the Camp Director, instructors and parents/guardians. Asked to leave the program.


PARENT/GUARDIAN CODE OF CONDUCT:

As a parent/guardian of a child in the Herdina Construction Trades Camp, I agree to abide by the following rules and expectations:

  1. I will remember that youth are involved in the Camp for their enjoyment, not mine.
  2. I understand that it is my role to teach my child respect and how to deal with daily frustrations.
  3. I will ensure my child is on time or will contact Camp Director Brooks Pederson or the HBA of F-M ahead of time if my child will be late or absent.
  4. I will ensure that my child's clothing is appropriate.


I understand that any violation of this code of conduct may result in consequences, which could include a verbal warning, loss of eligibility for incentives (i.e., college credits, scholarships or prize giveaways) or dismissal from the Herdina Construction Trades Camp.

  1. As a participant in the Herdina Construction Trades Camp, I agree to follow the stated rules below. I will be considerate and respectful to all students, instructors and volunteers.
  2. I will not swear or use abusive language in the classroom or on the job site.
  3. I will not drink alcohol, smoke, chew tobacco, vape, use cannabis or use any other illegal substances.
  4. I will treat all students, instructors, volunteers and my parents/guardians with respect.
  5. I will not bully, intimidate or make fun of my fellow classmates.
  6. I will agree to encourage them even when they make mistakes.
  7. I will respect my fellow students, instructors, volunteers on the job site, equipment and property.
  8. I will use camp tools as intended and not as weapons or to destroy property.
  9. I will not steal or damage anyone else's property.
  10. Weapons of any kind (including firearms and knives intended as weapons) are not permitted on Minnesota State Community and Technical College campuses, or at any college-sanctioned events or camps.
  11. Sexual misconduct/harassment is prohibited on any of the M State campuses. Campers are encouraged to report any instance(s) of sexual misconduct/harassment/violence as soon as possible to Camp Director Brooks Pederson.
  12. I will contact Camp Director Brooks Pederson or HBA of F-M ahead of time if I'm going to be absent or late.
  13. I will respect the ruling set forth for us. I understand that any violation of this code of conduct may result in consequences, which could include a verbal warning or dismissal from the Herdina Construction Trades Camp.
