“I originally planned to go to Bemidji State University for psychology, but then I became a CNA and realized how much I enjoyed nursing. I started looking into M State and found out it was much more affordable for me.
I came to campus to check out both the psychology and nursing transfer degree programs, and learned that the nursing program application was due three days from then. I kind of took that as a sign and applied. I did really well on my testing, and took that as another sign. I got the notification a couple months later that I was accepted!
I have no regrets. The nursing program is going really well. I tend to get bored quickly when I’m learning, and I like that this program moves fast. We’re learning new things every week, so there’s always something new to keep me engaged.
I’m from Frazee, so M State is only about 45 minutes from home, but coming here has given me more independence. I’m able to live on campus and have my own life separate from my family, while still going home every weekend to help on the farm.
I also like that there are always people around here. I can walk across campus and find someone to talk to, or literally go next door and find people to hang out with. Everybody wants to talk. I don’t feel rude just sitting down at a table and joining people.
After I graduate, I want to start working right away. I like that nursing is so versatile and that I can work in different areas and gain experience. Eventually, I’d like to earn my bachelor’s degree.”
