This course covers the fundamental principles of disc and drum brakes, hydraulic systems, parking brakes and power assist units. Students learn about the operation, diagnosis and repair of various brake systems. Additionally, the course includes an introduction to electric brake control systems.

  2. Use service information to locate related information for brake systems, brake assist systems and electric brake systems.
  3. Remove, repair and/or replace disc and drum brake systems.
  4. Understand, diagnose and repair drum brake systems and components.
  5. Understand, diagnose and repair disc brake systems and components.
  6. Perform brake system inspections and diagnose root causes of system concerns.
  7. Understand, diagnose and repair hydraulic brake system concerns.
  8. Machine brake rotors and drums using a bench brake lathe.
  9. Machine brake rotors using an on-car brake lathe.
