M State’s Professional Peace Officer Education program has received recertification from the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). The recertification is valid for three years and confirms that the program meets state standards for criminal justice education.

The recertification process includes a comprehensive review of course objectives, learning requirements and instructional methods, as well as a site visit by a member of the POST board.
“The recertification means we are producing quality students with the skills, knowledge and preparation to meet the challenges of a career in law enforcement,” says Ken Kompelien, dean of M State’s School of Health Sciences, Human Services, and Nursing. “It also means we are preparing our students to take the required licensing exam to begin their careers in criminal justice.”

Students seeking to become certified peace officers in Minnesota must complete a POST Board-certified Professional Peace Officer Education program in addition to earning their degree. They must also pass the Minnesota Peace Officer Licensing Exam, complete health screenings and background checks, and meet age and residency requirements.
