Community conversations

President Brimhall and members of M State’s leadership team had the opportunity to host a luncheon with many community leaders on campus. The majority of the meeting was spent listening, gathering feedback, discussing possibilities, and strengthening our leadership team’s understanding of local perspectives. Community input is incredibly important. Based on these conversations, additional follow-up meetings have been scheduled in Detroit Lakes this week to continue the dialogue.

Building appraisal underway

As a next step, the college is moving forward with a building appraisal. This process will help us better understand the current value of the facility, as well as identify any deferred maintenance and repair needs. The insights gained from this appraisal will play an important role in informing future decisions related to the physical building.

Commitment to academic programs

We want to reaffirm our commitment to launching both the Nursing and Radiologic Technology program cohorts on the Detroit Lakes campus during the 2026–2027 academic year. These programs remain a priority and the success of the programs is dependent on clarity for students and families. We anticipate a successful start to both programs next year.

Understanding the distinction: programs vs. facility

It is important to clarify that the academic programs and the physical facility are separate considerations. The current building exceeds our space needs and is not ideally configured for a modern higher education environment. As a result, any discussions or decisions regarding the building should not be interpreted as a reflection of our commitment to maintaining the Nursing and Radiologic Technology programs at the college.

Looking ahead

We will continue to keep the community informed as this work progresses. Our next update is planned for May. In the meantime, we welcome your questions and ongoing engagement.
