Patrick Calder‑Carriere holds bachelor’s degrees in theatre/biology and education, master’s degrees in theatre and English literature and composition, and a doctorate in theatre history and criticism, which he earned at the University of Kansas in 2010.
Calder‑Carriere’s studies of performance have taken him internationally, including work in Japan, Russia, Stratford‑upon‑Avon, Greece and Cyprus. He has participated in more than 40 productions and has worked in four languages: Japanese, Russian, Greek and English. His teaching experience includes appointments at the University of Kansas, Haskell Indian Nations University, Bemidji State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead.
In addition to his academic work, Calder‑Carriere has served as Region V Chair for the National Playwriting Program with the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival and currently serves as executive director of Minnesota’s Region 2 Arts Council. He joined M State after serving as director of the University Writing Support Center while completing his master’s degree.
Calder‑Carriere’s teaching philosophy is grounded in active learning and engagement, guided by the belief: “Tell me, and I forget. Teach me, and I remember. Involve me, and I learn.”
Outside the classroom, he enjoys travel, gardening, martial arts and tabletop role‑playing games.
