Description
Students will continue to build on the ultrasound scanning skills learned in ECHO1105 and ECHO1115. Content includes continued skill enhancement of a full adult transthoracic echocardiography scanning protocol. In addition, students will continue to master the content of the required measurements to determine the severity of cardiovascular disease.

  1. Evaluate patient information that is obtained prior to performing an echocardiogram.
  2. Perform proper body mechanics and ergonomics during an ultrasound exam.
  3. Practice the two-dimensional (2D) views required for a complete echocardiogram.
  4. Interpret measurements of heart size and function using 2D imaging.
  5. Produce the echocardiographic views required to assess ischemic disease.
  6. Interpret Doppler waveforms for an assessment of diastolic function.
  7. Understand and show the echocardiographic views required for pericardial disease assessment.
  8. Apply Doppler principles to ultrasound images.
  9. Interpret Color Doppler for the assessment of valvular disease.
  10. Assess Doppler waveforms in valvular stenosis.
  11. Demonstrate the use of M-mode for an assessment of heart structure.
  12. Demonstrate a systematic approach to a 2D and Doppler exam.
  13. Acquire the imaging protocol for a complete echocardiographic examination.
