Description
In this course, students will work in a licensed school salon to meet requirements stipulated by the State Board of Cosmetology. The course includes instruction in applied science and skills in cleaning, conditioning, shaping, reinforcing, coloring and enhancing of nails, and in the application and repair of artificial enhancements. Each student is required to complete a specific minimum number of clinical exercises as well as a minimum number of clinical hours to fulfill requirements set by the State Board of Cosmetology.

Competencies
  1. Assess client needs to conduct a successful client consultation.
  2. Apply Minnesota laws and rules to everyday practice.
  3. Execute proper sanitation and disinfection practices, including the use of personal protective equipment.
  4. Perform skin and nail analysis to determine contraindications prior to performing nail services.
  5. Demonstrate the appropriate workstation preparation for desired salon services.
  6. Complete manicure and pedicure services, including skin softening, nail shaping, cuticle detailing, massage and polish applications.
  7. Demonstrate artificial nail procedures, including tips with acrylic overlay, sculpting and gel applications, resulting in smooth, balanced and uniform shape.
  8. Execute safe artificial nail removal to ensure the natural nail and skin are unharmed.
