English Faculty
218.846.3744 - Detroit Lakes campus
K.C. Hanson has a master's degree in creative writing and is the author of published works in both fiction and nonfiction. He has more than 20 years of experience in teaching college-level literature and composition, bringing a practical, skills-based approach to the classroom shaped in part by his service in the U.S. Marine Corps. Hanson views education as a process of building competence and self-reliance. His courses are intentionally transparent, clearly outlining expectations, goals and purpose, and emphasizing steady effort over easy excuses. While his standards are high, he encourages persistence and growth, valuing honest work, even imperfect work, as long as students continue to engage and improve. Adaptability, resilience and critical thinking are central to his teaching philosophy. Outside of the classroom, Hanson enjoys several hobbies, including reading and writing, hunting and fishing, playing ukulele, painting with watercolors, gardening, walking his dog and listening to live classical music.
