Jason D. Peterson holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from North Dakota State University. He worked as a software engineer from 2000 to 2023, bringing more than two decades of industry experience to the classroom.
Peterson grew up on a farm in the Red River Valley, an experience that shaped his strong work ethic and practical approach to problem‑solving. His teaching philosophy emphasizes resilience, curiosity and continuous learning. He encourages students to take their work seriously, but not themselves, recognizing that persistence, reflection and balance are essential to long‑term success. He challenges students to learn something new every day and to leave the world better than they found it.
Outside the classroom, Peterson enjoys computer gaming, fishing and tabletop strategy games such as Warhammer 40,000. A fun fact: he is an Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America.
