Bonnie C. Peterson, MS, RHIA, has more than 30 years of experience in the health information management field, with a background spanning long‑term care, clinical settings, medical records management consulting and higher education. Peterson's education began at M State, where she earned a medical secretary diploma before completing bachelor’s and master’s degrees in health information management at the College of St. Scholastica. She also holds the registered health information administrator (RHIA) credential through the American Health Information Management Association. Since 2014, Peterson has served as the health information technology/coding program director and a faculty member at M State. In this role, she ensures program curriculum and standards meet the accreditation guidelines of CAHIIM (Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education), continuing a more than 40‑year history of program accreditation. Peterson is committed to educating the next generation of health information management professionals and expanding awareness of career opportunities within the field. Outside the classroom, she enjoys outdoor activities including gardening, snowmobiling, four‑wheeling and fishing.
