Description

This course provides an opportunity for students to pursue in-depth research, creative work or a field-based project not covered by the standard curriculum. Students work independently under the supervision of a faculty member, who sets custom learning objectives and a timetable. The student is responsible for producing a final project, paper or portfolio at the conclusion of the project, as indicated by the faculty member.

  1. Establish clearly achievable academic goals by creating a realistic, structured project plan and timeline.
  2. Prepare a distraction-free work environment that supports focused research and project study.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to stay focused, manage time effectively, and maintain a proactive and positive mindset without constant reminders.
  4. Create a plan of action that includes when and how to ask for help with the goal of achieving a successful conclusion.
  5. Detail how the project will use diverse, reliable resources (e.g., books, videos, databases) and create effective notes.
  6. Document clearly all data which reflects the project's strengths and challenges.
  7. Prepare and deliver a written final report or presentation as required by the supervising instructor.
