Description
This course prepares the practical nurse to transition into the professional nursing role. Concepts of legal and ethical considerations in practice, holistic assessment, the nursing process and development of individualized plans of care will be explored while integrating informatics, evidence-based practice, patient-centered care, safety and quality improvement.
Prerequisites
  • ENGL0096/97 or assess into ENGL1101
  • Graduate of an approved Practical Nursing program and admitted to the Associate Degree in Nursing-Advanced Standing Option program
  • MATH1020 or assess into a minimum of MATH1114
Competencies
  1. Explore the professional nursing role as it relates to legal and ethical standards, scope and evolution of practice.
  2. Differentiate components of the holistic assessment from the role of the practical nurse to the professional nurse.
  3. Self-identify areas of strength and weakness in completion of a holistic assessment.
  4. Illustrate a holistic plan of care that utilizes the nursing process while integrating concepts of quality, safety and evidenced-based practice.
  5. Examine the multiple dimensions of patient-centered care with regard to teaching and learning principles for diverse populations.
  6. Utilize informatics to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error and support decision making.
