Tree Dedication Ceremonies

The college opened its doors to the community for a special 20th Anniversary Tree Dedication Ceremony at each of its four campuses, in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead and Wadena. The college welcomed alumni, stakeholders and any other interested community members to the ceremonies, along with current staff, faculty and students.

Attendees were treated to snacks and beverages, listened to brief talks by college and local community leaders, and then headed outside to celebrate as a commemorative 20th Anniversary plaque was placed underneath a newly planted Autumn Blaze Maple tree. One tree was planted at each of the four campuses, near a main entrance.

The ceremonies kicked off on the Wadena campus, at noon on September 25. M State President Carrie Brimhall and Vice President of Strategic Engagement Craig Beytien spoke on behalf of the college, along with 2015 M State Nursing graduate Medley Shamp, who’s now VP/Chief Ambulatory Officer at Astera Health. Wadena Mayor George Deiss spoke on behalf of the community.

Next up was the Detroit Lakes campus ceremony, held September 27 at noon. President Brimhall spoke, along with Detroit Lakes Mayor Matt Brenk and 2005 M State Radiologic Technology graduate Melissa Watson, Essentia Health’s Radiology Clinical Educator Coordinator.

The following day, September 28, Moorhead hosted its Tree Dedication Ceremony. President Brimhall again spoke on behalf of the college, this time joined by M State Alumni Association President Josh Hansen, a 2021 M State graduate. Moorhead Mayor Pro Tempore Chuck Hendrickson also spoke.

Capping off the ceremonies was the October 5 event in Fergus Falls, which began at 11 a.m. President Brimhall, Fergus Area College Foundation Vice President Jeff Stanislawski and M State alum Stacey Herbel all spoke on behalf of the college, and Fergus Falls Mayor Ben Schierer shared his thoughts on M State’s impact on the community.
