Graphic Design

If you have a passion for design, our Graphic Design certificate and diploma program options will build your skills, develop your talents, and help you make connections in the field. You’ll have opportunities to interact with regional graphic design professionals and employers at events such as the annual American Advertising Federation competition as well as through mock interviews, guest speakers and tours. By the end of the program, you’ll have a comprehensive design portfolio that showcases your best technical and creative work.

The 60-credit diploma program focuses on the essentials of photography, color theory, typography, layout and design, and web and print production to develop your talents, creatively and technically. You’ll gain practice integrating digital technology with design, and may complete an internship to further develop your skills in presenting ideas and concepts. You’ll be prepared for an entry-level position in the industry, or may decide to advance your studies at a four-year college or university.

You’ll learn:

• Production of visual concepts using drawing and computer programs
• Interpreting, speaking, writing and editing the language of advertising, graphic design, digital graphic technology and print production
• Preparation of digital files for printing
• Understanding of offset print production
• Application of theories of design, color and typography
• Professional traits that benefit graphic designers

The 30-credit certificate program is designed for advanced students, students with advanced degrees, or professionals already working in a creative field. The two-semester, fast-track program builds on existing skills and accommodates the accelerated placement goals of advanced students.

This diploma program may offer a seamless transfer option, meaning you can transfer into a related bachelor's degree program at a four-year college or university without losing credits.
