M State's John Thomas receives World Citizen Award
John Thomas III, a second-year student in the Associate of Arts degree program at Minnesota State Community and Technical College, has been awarded the Mark M. Welter World Citizen Award.
Thomas is a graduate of Apollo High School in St. Cloud and attends M State’s Fergus Falls campus, where he has been involved with music and the Spartan football program.
Campus housing director Victoria McWane-Creek nominated Thomas for the $500 award, writing in her nomination that Thomas “is determined to use his experiences and connections to develop a plan to improve the campus for himself and his peers.”
The Mark Welter World Citizen Award is a tribute to Minnesota State system students who best exemplify the thoughts, words and actions demanded by citizens of an interconnected 21st century world. Twenty students are recognized from Minnesota State’s 30 two-year colleges and seven universities each year.
The award is sponsored by the Welter Family Foundation and the student advocacy group LeadMN.
