M State targets small business success with WCI grant
Beginning this fall, Fergus Falls area small business owners and staff will have the opportunity to gain crucial workplace skills, thanks to a $10,000 West Central Initiative grant awarded to the Workforce Development Solutions division of Minnesota State Community and Technical College.
Amy Hochgraber, WDS director of business and industry, said grant money will be used to fund a series of six to eight training sessions, with tentative topics including maximizing social media, financial resources, computer essentials, employee recruitment, leadership development and growing a business.
The trainings are supported by a grant from the West Central Initiative Business Assistance Program.
"We are thrilled for the opportunity to partner with M State to provide educational outreach to our small businesses,” said Annie Deckert, CEO of Greater Fergus Falls. “With the current workforce shortage, developing our existing workforce is critical, and this grant program allows us to offer valuable training to strengthen our local businesses."
Sessions will be taught by M State staff and industry experts.
Planning for the sessions is ongoing with assistance from staff at Greater Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County and the Fergus Falls Chamber of Commerce. For more information or to share suggestions for training topics, contact Hochgraber at email@example.com or 218.846.3766.
