Diversity Speaker Curtis Hill
Jan 30 @ 5:00 am – Feb 1 @ 2:00 pm

Wednesday, February 1st 12:30-2pm
Moorhead Campus East Commons
In today’s rapidly changing world, students need to develop a deeper understanding of what diversity really means. Tackling diversity should consist of a lot more than just compliance and affirmative action. Inclusion is the key – being aware of those around you and not only respecting them, but having a true appreciation for them and their differences. “Creating US” is designed to build an inclusive organization where people from diverse backgrounds work together for a common purpose. Curtis will deal with 4 major areas: Unconscious Biases: “You”, Working Together: “Them”, Building a Diverse Team: “US” and Getting Involved: “I’m In”.

“Steel Magnolias” @ Waage Theatre
Mar 3 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Amid the buzz of blow dryers and mist of hair spray, Minnesota State Community and Technical College’s Fine Arts Department celebrates the bonds of female friendships with its spring production of Steel Magnolias.

The classic comedy-drama is set in Truvy’s Beauty Shop in a small Louisiana town, where six Southern women – delicate as magnolias yet strong as steel – support each other through good times and tragedy. The witty dialogue and authentic characters emphasize the importance of female friendship and strength and encourage the audience to experience Truvy’s favorite emotion: laughter through tears.

Performances at the Waage Theatre on the Fergus Falls campus are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 3 and 4; 2 p.m. Sunday, March 5; and 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, March 9-11.

The cast includes Gigi Lindstrom of Cokato; Amanda Anderson of Buffalo Lake; Danelle Hubert of Fergus Falls; Megan Riedel of Clarissa; Naomi Beske of  Fergus Falls; and Cassidy Anderson of Henning. The radio DJ voiceover is provided by Isaiah Moengen of Crosslake.

Steel Magnolias is directed by Sheri Johnson with technical direction by Stefanie Gerhardson.

Tickets are $9 in advance and $11 at the door for adults and $7 in advance and $8 at the door for students and are available at the M State box office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour prior to each performance; by calling 218-736-1600; or online at mstatetickets.com.
