M State Graphic Design student Michael Brunette was the winner of a Silver Award in the student category of the recent American Advertising Federation of North Dakota annual design competition.

The AAF-ND’s virtual “At Ease” awards ceremony was Feb. 26 and live streamed to more than 1,000 design professionals across the region.

Brunette, a resident of Moorhead and a second-year student in the Graphic Design program, was recognized for the branding materials he developed for “The Piggy Bank,” an in-person/online banking company for children. His fictitious company would allow children to open savings accounts, use deposit slips and take out “kid loans,” and reward them based on how well they managed and saved their money.

Brunette is also the graphic designer at Prairie Heights Community Church in West Fargo and a freelance graphic designer. His Piggy Bank entry is eligible to advance to the AAF’s district-level competition this spring.

In addition to M State, the competition included design students from Concordia College, North Dakota State University, Minnesota State University Moorhead and Bismarck State College.
