Minnesota State Community and Technical College’s Concert and Jazz bands will join together for the college’s annual Spring Band Concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, on the Fergus Falls campus.
The concert also will feature guest clarinet soloist Dr. Leigh Wakefield, principal clarinetist with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra and an associate professor of music at Concordia College in Moorhead.
The Concert Band, under the direction of Jim Iverson, will begin the concert in Legacy Hall with numbers including The President’s Trio by Frank Bencriscutto, the Henry Fillmore march His Honor, a Benny Goodman medley and Tuba Tiger Rag, featuring the band’s tuba section.
The audience will move into Waage Theatre for the performance by the Jazz Band, under the direction of Scott Kummrow. Jazz Band numbers include the ballad When I Fall in Love, a contemporary piece based on the rock band Radiohead’s Bodysnatchers and a blues piece written in honor of Fergus Falls music educator Leroy Leverson titled Blues for Adeline.
Wakefield will perform Molly on the Shore by Percy Grainger with the Concert Band and Woodchopper’s Ball by Woody Herman with the Jazz Band.
