Amid the buzz of blow dryers and mist of hair spray, Minnesota State Community and Technical College’s Fine Arts Department celebrates the bonds of female friendships with its spring production of Steel Magnolias.
The classic comedy-drama is set in Truvy’s Beauty Shop in a small Louisiana town, where six Southern women – delicate as magnolias yet strong as steel – support each other through good times and tragedy. The witty dialogue and authentic characters emphasize the importance of female friendship and strength and encourage the audience to experience Truvy’s favorite emotion: laughter through tears.
Performances at the Waage Theatre on the Fergus Falls campus are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 3 and 4; 2 p.m. Sunday, March 5; and 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, March 9-11.
The cast includes Gigi Lindstrom of Cokato; Amanda Anderson of Buffalo Lake; Danelle Hubert of Fergus Falls; Megan Riedel of Clarissa; Naomi Beske of Fergus Falls; and Cassidy Anderson of Henning. The radio DJ voiceover is provided by Isaiah Moengen of Crosslake.
Steel Magnolias is directed by Sheri Johnson with technical direction by Stefanie Gerhardson.
