Area high school art show opens Feb. 10 on M State’s Fergus Falls campus

Artwork by dozens of area high school students goes on display Feb. 10 on the Fergus Falls campus of Minnesota State Community and Technical College.

The Regional Art Show, which is free and open to the public, will include 160 works by students from the Battle Lake, Brandon-Evansville, Campbell-Tintah, Minnewaska Area, Morris Area, Parkers Prairie, Underwood and West Central Area high schools and from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls.

The event’s organizer, Underwood art teacher Jonathan Hartman, said each school can submit up to 18 student works for the show, which is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League. Works selected as Best in Category and Best in Show are eligible for the State Art Show at the Perpich Center for Arts Education in Golden Valley in May.

Students compete in the categories of drawing, painting, sculpture, film-based photography, digital photography, video art, computer-based artwork, crafts, print making, ceramics, 2D mixed media/collage and graphic design.

Judging will be Feb. 20-25, and the awards will be announced during the March 8 Spring Arts Showcase at M State.

The student art will be on display in M State’s Charles Beck Gallery, which is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
